The Defiant Movement is a digital magazine, online community, and organization created by young people, for young people. Founded by Canadian high school students in 2019, Defiant is now a global platform for powerful and unapologetic Gen Z voices to rally around social justice issues or share their opinions about all things politics, climate change, race, gender, even wellness and poetry. 

From fighting against systemic racism and period poverty, to leading conversations around hustle culture and homophobia - our contributors are passionate teens destined to defy the status quo. This publication was created for the very purpose of enabling teens to be changemakers and trailblazers within their communities, with a foundational belief that young people are no longer the leaders of tomorrow - but the leaders of today.

Royal Bank of Canada’s Social Impact Catalyst Award

Defiant was recognized as one of six organizations a part of the Social Impact Catalyst Fellowship and LEAP Start-Up Program in partnership with Sheridan College and the University of Toronto. Defiant was recognized for its social impact-focused entrepreneurship and funding for future community work.

Rising Youth Community Grant Recipient

The Defiant Movement has received thousands in funding from the Government of Canada in support of our youth-focused community projects in the Greater Toronto Area through the Rising Youth Grant Program. The organization was awarded a certificate of recognition from Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau for its continued within Canada.
